I sat directly in front of Dan in Mr. Goldfinger's home room our freshman year (1959). Dan was a swimmer and had a great sense of humor. A tragic accident left him paralyzed. I was sad to hear of the accident and sad to hear of the many classmates who've passed away.
My strongest memories of Dan was him as a drummer. I remember being fascinated at how he could create several parallel rhythms on a drum set and migrate to other rhythms. He was really clever at keeping different rhythms in different hands and feet going at the same time. He was a vibrant fellow with a quick smile, but was greatly diminished by the auto accident. We were all changed by the accident, but Dan was a truly different person after that.
