Dear Classmates:

I have learned from classmate Laurel Herbenar Bossen of the passing of Lauretta Magidson Miller on February 3, 2023 in Northbrook.  Lauretta was one of our classmates from Logan Elementary School, Wilmette Jr High and New Trier, and Laurel shares these memories of Lauretta:

Lauretta was a great friend from elementary and throughout high school years. I learned a great deal from her, especially her love of languages and literature. Her sense of humor -- she introduced me to the songs of Tom Lehrer--was marvelous. We shared many adventures. She graduated early from New Trier (Dec. 1962) in order to go to University of Michigan. Perhaps she was too young for that. She dropped out after a year and worked at a variety of jobs, later finished her degree at UI circle (I believe). She married several times, had two sons, was widowed, and was admitted to law school at Northwestern but found it impossible to continue while supporting her two sons . It seemed she never really settled down but always supported herself in various businesses. I would intermittently find her and we would catch up, but the past 20 years or so, I could not locate her. It turned out she was suffering from early onset Alzheimer's and passed her last years in a Memory care center in Northbrook. I will remember her as a dear, brilliant friend who went her own way.
