In Memory

Jennifer Taylor (Bartoli-Kalina)

Dear Classmates

I received word from that our classmate, Jennifer Taylor Bartoli Kalina passed away on October 18, 2022.

Some of you may remember Jennifer from the Lagnaippe board and her acting role in Doc Peterman's production of "Allegro," a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical.  In this version a cast of actors played the various roles and a separate cast of singers would sing the songs. Those of us in Opera Group were the chorus behind a screen.  It was quite a unique production.  Jennifer played Majorie Taylor,, the mother of the lead character, Joseph Taylor, Jr. who was played by Pete Coffield.  That's Jennifer on the right.

Our sympathies to Jennifer's family and her sister Alison Taylor Mutter.

Jenny and I first met, and became friends, sometime in our sophomore year at New Trier. We both were active in the drama program. Through senior year we were in four or five shows together, including “Allegro.”
A few years after graduation, Jenny became my sister-in-law for a period of time.
What proved to be our last get-together occurred about seven years ago when I enjoyed a weekend in and around Winfield with Jenny and her husband Dan. Among other adventures, we devoured Chicago hot dogs at Parky’s on South Harlem, participated in the Chesterton Society meeting at Centuries & Sleuths Bookstore in Forest Park, and attended Mass Sunday morning at their church in Winfield.
Jenny’s interests were wide and varied. Her enthusiasm was contagious. She was genuine and real. And thoughtful. As our visit was concluding and I prepared to return to St. Louis, she surprised me with a gift.  It was a framed photographic portrait of an unknown woman her mother purchased in Greece many years ago. She remembered how much I had liked the portrait and insisted I take it with me. With gratitude, I did so.
Now, the portrait is a special remembrance of Jenny.
