Dear Classmates,

Thanks so much to several classmates for sharing the sad news about our classmate Ellen Boyd Brandenburg.

Ellen passed away from recurring cancer on Sept 4.  The caringbridge link has a very moving account of Ellen's final weeks and days written by her daughter.

Some of you may remember that Ellen planned to attend our 50th reunion, but suddenly lost her husband George just before the event.  George was in the NT class of 1962.

Love to all,

Sad to hear of Ellen's passing. We were neighbors growing up. She lived on Ramona and I was around the corner on Blackhawk Road. We dated in HS but she was smart to leave me behind. Condolences to to her family.

Ellen was such a special person -- elegant, composed and very funny. She and George Brandenberg (NT 1962) married in college, which was so unusual, and they went on to have a wonderful life together.  She, Susan Waterfall and Sue Minter Oates came to our house on Nantucket for a 'grade school reunion' a couple of years ago, which was great fun. Very sad to lose such a good friend but I hope classmates will read her daughter's moving account of Ellen's last days.

I knew Ellen through grade school and high school.  She was a special combination of beauty, intelligence, dignity and grace. We lost touch over the years but I can see that hers was a full life, well-lived.

I attended Harper school with Ellen where she was in "the other room" so we didn't intersect very much.  Whenever our paths crossed she showed her lovely manners and kindness.  I remember her sweet smile and her special elegance. Many years later when my college roommate and I decided to give Boston a try, she and George kindly hosted us in their home in Cambridge where George was working on his PHD.  It is wonderful to read what a happy life they built together.

I send my deepest condolences to her family and friends

I send my condolences to Ellen's family. I too was one of the first graders at Harper School with Ellen. I have this picture in my mind of her when she was 6 years old at my birthday party. She was the sweetest person and I remember through the years always thinking what a lovely kind person she was. Reading from my fellow Harper School classmates really has touched me that even though the years have passed there is something so special about those first years that we all remember so dearly. I think of them often now that my Granddaughter is in first grade. I hope Ellen's family and dear friends are comforted by the love she gave them through the years and that her memory will be a blessing to them. Elise Franden Wilkinson
